Wim Desmet

Wim is a Full Professor of dynamics and mechatronics at the KU Leuven Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Mecha(tro)nic System Dynamics (LMSD) division. He is the Head of the DMMS-Dynamics of Mechanic and Mechatronic Systems- Core lab of Flanders Make, the Strategic Research Center for the Manufacturing Industry in Flanders. Since Nov 1, 2020, he has also served as the Managing Director of KU Leuven. 

Wim holds an M.Sc. degree and a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from KU Leuven, Belgium.  His major research interests include Digital Twin and Model Based System Engineering developments for mechanics and mechatronics engineering. This involves advanced modelling, analysis, testing, monitoring and control techniques in vibro-acoustics, aeroacoustics and (flexible) multibody dynamics. Prime application domains involve sustainable engineering solutions for industrial machinery and manufacturing, green transportation, energy supply and health care.
